The event will bring together the four best teams from our nine event regular season, with the two teams emerging from the best three of five matchup going on to our Finals in Hollywood, Florida in September. The
10 bouts will feature some of the great rising stars in Mixed Martial Arts, all coached by some of the legends of the sport. The teams featured will be:

  • The New York-based Pitbulls led by world jiu jitsu champion Renzo Gracie. The Pitbulls went 3-0 in their matchups, and are led by undefeated Brazilian Delson Heleno, middleweight (and Colgate grad) Jamal Patterson and heavyweight, Long Island native and Hofstra grad Bryan Vitell. Vitell also recently qualified for the first-ever USA Grappling team, which will compete at the World Wrestling hampionships
    in Turkey in September.

  • The Pitbulls will take on the Tokyo-based Sabres, coached by world wrestling and bodybuilding champion Ken Yasuda. The Sabres also went undefeated in their three regular season events, and are led by the tandem of MMA veteran and Belarus Olympic wrestler Vladimir "The Janitor" Matyushenko and Antonio McKee, and also feature former Oklahoma wrestler Wayne Cole.

  • The second matchup will have the Quad Cities Silverbacks looking to avenge their one regular season loss, when they meet the Los Angeles-based Anacondas. The Silverbacks, coached by MMA world champion Pat Miletich, feature explosive undefeated heavyweight Ben "North Star" Rothwell, explosive lightweight and former Lock Haven wrestler Mike Ciesnolevicz, while the Anacondas, coached by Sean Tompkins, are led by undefeated lightweight Chris Horodecki, middleweight MMA veteran Benji Radich, Long Island native and former Nassau Community College wrestler Jay Hieron, and former Montana State standout wrestler Alex Schoenauer.

We have been very pleased with the response we have gotten to our business model and our style of competition in year one. Wrestlers in particular have taken to the changes we have made compared to other
organizations --we compete in a ring, not a cage, have outlawed many of the bloody moves like elbows to the head, and use the team format like collegiate and high school wrestling -- so we can reward both team and
individual champions over the season.

Our model has enabled us to form a relationship with USA Wrestling to cross-promote activities around the country, both exposing MMA to the wrestling community and showing the value of wrestling to the MMA world.
It has been very beneficial to both groups, and we are looking forward to growing the relationship, perhaps with your input.

We hope that you are able to join us for the events on July 16th and August 2nd, and would love to work with you on assisting you with questions your athletes may have on MMA, or in doing grassroots activities in the tri-state area.

At the end of the day, we want to help you raise the profile of wrestling while we grow MMA, and think the two can fit together very well.

Thanks, Keith
