Shore Conference Weekly Match Summary
Early Season In State Tournament Summaries:
Several SC Teams traveled to over a ½ dozen counties in state to participate in a
dozen different tournaments. Titles were captured and competition was grand. Here are
short recaps.
Caldwell Tournament:
The Stangs of Brick Memorial had 10 Top 3 medalists with 2 Champions as they finished
2.5 points behind runner up Paulsboro and 9 points off the crown won by Kittatiny.
Frosh Phenom Steve Santos at 135 LBS and Senior 189 Lber Sean McCrossan were
Champions while runner-ups were: 119 N. Davis, 125 Miller, 145 Oliviero, 152 Barrett,
and Bronze medalists 130 Reid, 140 Guzzi, 171 Havens and 215 Phillips.
Hunterdon Central Tournament:
With 3 Placewinners TRE competed against NJ State ranked #1 team South Plainfield
along with 13 others in this highly competitive annual event.. 275 LBS Adam Henig was
crowned Champion while 130 lbs Mike Kinder took runner-up and frosh 103 lber Vinny
Dellafave was third.
Roselle Park Holiday Tounament:
The Rebs of Howell ran away with the title as they placed13 wrestlers in the Top 3,
an extra 103 lber (Zangari) took 3rd and 119 Aquino took 4th place. The Rebs placed
11 in the finals and crowned 8 Champions. (103 Langel, 112 Fobes, 125 Morello, 145
Tuminelli, 152 Woodward, 189 Barnhard, and 215 Bonfig) The 3 Runnerups were 130 Bohn,
171 Sheehan, and 275 lisa. The bronze winners were 103 Zangari, 135 Eckloff, 140
Calafiore, and 160 Mormino.
Roselle Park Opening Day Tounament:
Point Pleasant Boro Panthers took a ride north to get some out of area competition
and wrestled to a 4th place finish against some studs. Though they had no Champions
the Panthers put 4 in the finals (140 Nickerson, 160 Jacobs, 215 Infante, and 275
Bongiovi)
Rose at 152 lbs and Tarantin at 125 lbs to the Bronze.
Kittatiny Tournament:
The Golden Falcons of Monmouth Regional decided it was time to fly the Holmdel Xmas
Tournament coop and find higher level comp for its team and especially the "3
Amigos" (Christensen, Eggie, and Bongarzone). It achieved its goal as the team
finished in 7th place but only 6 points out of 4th place. the comp was great and the"3 Amigos" all got to the finals with Bongarzone winning at 140 lbs. 125
LBS Christensen lost a real close battle 3-1 against Bollette and at 135 Eggie was
turned back by a NY state stud.
Hanover Park Tournament:
With new coach Terrance Clendenin, the Indians made their way over to hanover and
placed 7th while putting to in the finals. 171 LBS Childress and 215 Riveria both
were runner-ups.
Holy Cross Tournament:
Three Ocean County teams headed south to represent the SC at this tournament. Besides
High Point HS, the 2 Toms River schools had a good case for placing runner up at this
non team scoring tournament. All 3 SC teams had at least one Champion. TRE had 3
Finalists, 1 Champions and 2 Bronze medalists. 275 LBS Henig was crowned Champ while
125 lbs Frank and 130 lbs Kinder were runner-ups. 103 Dellafave and 119 Striffilino
were Bronze winners. TRN also had 3 Finalists but 2 Champs in 103 Oliver and 145
Castro, at 171 newman was runner-up. The 3rd team, Pinelands, has a Champ at 152
Smith.
Rahway Tournament
Pineland Regional placed 2 in the finals with 1 champion. At 112 lbs Stackhouse took
home the title while at 152 Smith lost to 2x defending State Champ Caldwell of host
Rahway. Pinelands took home 5th place as a team.
Nottingham Tournament:
Out in Mercer County the Hawks of Manchester took Runner-up honors by placing 9
wrestlers in the Top 3. They had 2 Champions with 3 in the Finals. 140 Moroz and 171
Meaney won their weights and 275 Ott was runner-up. The bronze medal pack were 112
Duckers, 119 Boyle, 135 Nodolay, 152 Meaney, 189 Mack and 215 Elzaythat
East Brunswick Tournament:
Monmouth County Matawan Huskies and RBR Bucs competed out in Middlesex County.
Matawan took 8th while the Bucs were at 10. Matawan had 2 Runner-ups in 103 Terry
and 112 Antista while grabbing 2 Bronze with 140 lbs DeNardo and 145 Mahmoud. The
Bucs had a Champion in 152 Saible and a runner-up with 275 lbs Kulat.
Ewing Tournament:
Pt. Pleasant Beach took the team Bronze only 6 pts from the runner-up position. The
Gulls had 5 Top 3 positions with 1 Champion in 125 LBS Rega. The 2 Runner-ups were
112 Barlow and 145 Morris while the Bronze winners were 130 Napiello and 152
Farrell.
Allen Clipper Classic @ Clayton HS:
The Caseys of RBC took 8th place in a very tough tournament with 135 LBS Adams
finishing 4th place.
