Shore Conference Weekly Match Summary
Out of State Wrestling: There was a minor crusade by the shore conference this year
with several SC Top 10 teams going on the road. All had huge success while only
strengthening the reputation and cred of the shore area and its programs. There are
two more road trips later as Ocean goes to East Stroudsburg University to take on St.
Eds of Ohio, the US #1 Ranked team Blair, and Bergen Catholic. And Brick Memorial
will be traveling to Allentown, PA for the National HS Coaches Association
Tournament.
BEAST OF THE EAST, DELAWARE
The Ocean Twp. Spartans, NJ #1 ranked team in the preseason, went down and captured
#11th place out of 87 teams from all over the United States. The Spartans were led by
runner-up Kyle Kiss at 171 pounds and Top 4 finishes by 130 Lopes and 189 Sicliano.
The team as a whole had a great showing with many getting valuable experience and
success through the wrestlebacks.
THE CLASH:
The Jags of Jax head ½ across the country to Gopher Country of Minnesota. This annual
National Tournament was loaded and probably didn't think the likes of the Jags were
going to be able to hang. Well the Jags not only hung but put on a Clinic of Jersey
style wrestling for those sudo-canadians lol. The jags went 5-1 placing 2nd in this
32 team field only falling to Nationally #3 ranked Carl Sandburg of Ill. 145 LBS
Scotty Winston went undefeated and made the All Tournament team.
The Govenor Mifflin Tournament, PA:
The Rams of Southern returned to this tournament as last years runner-ups. Going in
several questions for the Rams were answered..#1? was how good are their 4 frosh of
103 Walters, 112 Broderick, 125 Miele and 215 Carson..answer..are they really
freshman??? not the way they wrestled..2nd?? will new varsity wrestlers be able to
step right in??? yes..Rossi at 130, Henry at 152 and Broderick at 160 aren't new but
just replacement parts for this tough reloaded Ram team. Southern took the team title
with several medal winners...Lanno at 135 lbs and Molinaro at 140 lbs were crowned
Champions.
Battle at the Beach, Indian River Delaware:
The Howell Rebels with 5 Champions and a Runner-up was crowned team Champion down in
Delaware. 103 Langel, 112 Fobes, 130 Richardson, 152 Woodward and 215 Bonfig won out
while 145 Tuminelli was runner-up.
Richmond, VA Invitational:
The Raritan Rockets blasted on down to Virginia and in a unhospital way took a 4th
place finish in this competitive 26 team tournament. They were a pebbles throw out of
3rd and their Jersey style of wrestling didn't make a lot of friends lol. Talented
frosh Dan Seidenberg at 140 LBS and Senior leaderJeff King at 275 captured titles
while Dan's brother Dave took runnerup at 135 but snapped an ankle doing it. Bringing
home a Bronze for the Rockets was TJ Mitchell at 119 lbs.
