Youth Wrestling
Edited by Steve Rivera 06/06/05
Youth wrestling
is the foundation needed for a successful Junior High and High School career.
Promote your local wrestling by involvement. Most towns are short of help...ask
if you can get involved. If your town doesn't have youth wrestling program
please contact me (steverivera@wrca.net). I will do what I can to help you out to get one started.

Keyport Novice Tournament
Below is
the press release that Dan put out about the Keyport Tournament but I would
like to comment on their efforts here. I can only applaud Dan, Joe and other
involved with this Summer Series of Events. For years as a youth wrestler
trainer we have always had to travel considerable distances to get matches
at this time of year. Since most champions dont have an off-season this was
real commitment for kids and parents who wanted to get an edge on the competition.
Dont get me wrong, it works and works well but the time commitment is substantial.
With all these tournaments coming to our area and our youth wrestlers being
what they are ...GOOD!! The competition now has a reason to come to us. Thanks Guys.
And to those
who are concerned with the financials of these events, I can confidently
tell you that Dan and others have an open book policy. Why it is concerns
of others is beyond me, but they are true to that policy. Whatever the financial
gain/loss may be it is irrelevant to the fact that they are doing good for
our local wrestlers and deserve whatever they can get.

Mat Products- Being a coach I have concerns in regards to skin diseases and other virus's that
may exist on the mats. In many cases the school supplies disinfectants,
but are they wrestling specific? Consider the body contact to the mat,
the intense heat and mixture of sweat, most likely not. I have located
a product that I feel is worth mentioning. The product is BUTCHER's Morning Mist. Not only is it affective but it has a handy mixer/dispenser that hooks to the
bucket and guarantees perfect mix every time. I purchased through Spruce
Industries a local distributor. Leigh Tyluki (70' NJ Wrestler). He can
be reached at 908-789-2431

"I
was glued to the book as soon as I started to read the first page. I liked how
you went into detail on the weight cutting and the long, and hard practices,
It was very accurate to real life. I also liked how you described their lives
and them getting into trouble with girls and their family ."--Matt Frank, 119-pounder, Toms River High School East (NJ)
