Great wrestlers? Sure. Point Beach has had a nice little collection of those.

A 100-win wrestler? Never.

So when Matt Rega pressed Keyport senior Dan Cornell's shoulders to the mat 2:38 into their 119-pound bout, he was stepping into a spot in the history books where no Garnet Gulls wrestler had stepped before. Rega's 100th career victory helped Point Beach rally back from an early deficit and beat Keyport 42-26 in a Shore Conference Class B Central match Wednesday.

"It says something about Matt and his wrestling career," said Point Beach head coach Dan O'Cone. "It's very difficult. (You have) to come in as a freshman, you've got to be good, and you've got to win."

The Garnet Gulls (4-3) were actually trailing 26-24 when Rega took the mat. He raced out to an 18-8 lead, then turned a double-leg takedown and a half into career win No. 100. Rega's victory gave Point Beach its first lead of the night, 30-26.
