Last season when Keansburg won the Class B Central championship after defeating Point
Beach on criteria, coach Frank Kuhl knew there were people who thought it was a
fluke.
"I think the results this (season) leave no doubt," Kuhl said after
Keansburg defeated Keyport, 48-15. That gave Keansburg divisional victories against
the three top preseason squads * Shore, Point Beach and Keyport.
"It was nice to win last year," Kuhl said. "But this year meant more
because the other teams are a lot better than last year."
Things started quickly for the Titans when Sean Yeneic beat Tim Vollmuth in the
opening bout at 189.
Yeneic had jumped out to a 10-3 lead but had to hold of Vollmuth's pin attempt before
clinching the victory.
In the heavyweight bout, Rich Roser edged John Dorsi, 16-14. Earlier this season
Dorsi had won the Holmdel championship by pinning the Keansburg heavyweight.
"He just got caught that night. He was leading," Kuhl said. "Rich was
determined to win that bout. We had a packed house and they were going wild."
Keansburg is now 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in Class B Central, while Keyport is now
3-1, 2-1 in division.
