Marlboro coach William Werntz knew what he needed from Aaron Weiner in the last bout of the Mustangs' Class A North match against Freehold Township.

"We were adding up the wins and losses, so we knew if he won, we'd have the tiebreaker," Werntz said.

But it wasn't easy against Jody Smith in the 160-pound bout.

"Aaron pushed up a weight and was losing in the early going," Werntz said.

But a reversal late in the second period and another in the third proved to be the difference as Weiner won 9-5, tying the team score at 30-30. Marlboro was credited with the victory because of having more pins (3-2) in the match.

Eric Stoffer actually had what proved to be the winning pin for Marlboro when he pinned in the first period of his bout at 130.

"We were expecting him to get us points there. He did a great job," Werntz said.

The Mustangs, who lost 40-32 to St. John Vianney in the final match of the tri-meet, are now 2-3. Nick Parisi won both of his bouts and now has 99 wins in his career.

St. John Vianney also beat Freehold Township, 34-32, when Ken Thoman took a major decision at 160 pounds.

JACKSON 53, RARITAN 9:

The Shore's top-rated team rolled to victory in the nondivisional match with Sean Byrnes putting together the most impressive victory.

Byrnes rode out Bill Voutsinas in the 30-second fourth overtime period for a 3-2 victory at 130 pounds in the final bout of the match.

Both had reversals in the second period of regulation to send the match into overtime. They went scoreless in three extra periods before Byrnes got the ride out. Jackson defeated Toms River South 64-12 in their Class A South battle. Raritan also defeated the Indians, 50-21.

BRICK MEMORIAL 58, BRICK 9:

The Mustangs warmed up for their match Saturday night against Absegami with a Class A South victory against Brick.

John Havens and Sean McCrossan got the Mustangs off to a fast start with early pins as they improved to 2-1 in the division. Brick is 0-3.

FREEHOLD 37, COLTS NECK 18:

KEANSBURG 43, POINT BEACH 28:

The Titans took a giant step toward maintaining their Class B Central championship when they swept the final five bouts.

Anthony Blozen got things going for the Titans with a pin at 171 that cut the Beach lead to 28-19. When Rich Roser pinned at the heavyweight bout it sealed the outcome for Keansburg.
